About Us
Investing in a sustainable landscape provides great financial returns and peace of mind in a hectic world.
Adams Kirkpatrick is the company's founder, designer, supervisor of construction. Sunflower Design is a client representative. That means we are accountable to you and we work with your general contractor to install your landscape. This removes a common conflict-of-interest in the landscape world and allows us to focus 100% on quality.
Our CAD designs are thoroughly developed with your approval every step of the way.
Ornamental Horticulturist George L. Gentry is available for projects. George specializes in fruiting and flowering plants. He has hand-drawn beautiful designs for 25 years.
DESIGN PROCESS:
Your needs are integrated every step of the way. This approval process is a recipe for great relationships. Our design process includes these three steps.
First we meet, establish a budget, create a list of your wants [plants, materials, usage]. Adams then lays out the landscape beds, features, and hardscapes for your approval.
Second, we add plants and materials to the design. We offer detailed notes specific to your project. With detailed notes, the design is an installation guide that allows installers to accurately price their work. Without notes, the installation is open to interpretation.
Third, we work with a general contractor to create an actual budget for your process. Your budget can be broken down into projects and even materials costs. High level budgets are free. Detailed budgets including materials costs are available at our hourly rate.
Questions in this Landscape Evaluation Form can help you further budget and explore your needs.
When the design is complete and priced by a contractor, you have a valuable tool for phasing and budgeting your project. Pricing of designs varies from job-to-job, however, a standard site design for an entire empty lot that is one acre or less is $1400. Additional detail sections for features [water, structures, masonry, et cetera] are available for subs. A set price and clearly defined expectations are provided before we begin the design process.
INSTALLATION PROCESS:
Sunflower Design's quality standards include premium soils and bed prep, properly-sized and healthy plants, proper support and engineering of all structures, et cetera. All designs are to scale and are available with extensive design notes. The design is the instructions for a successful installation. You have the satisfaction knowing that a quality landscape is expected.
Sunflower Design offers and recommends installation oversight. Our industry standard fee of 10% typically will reduce the general contractor's oversight budget. Because we share the oversight responsibility, general contractors can charge less for oversight.
ORGANICS:
Our experience shows that organic systems work far better than chemical products. According to the Journal of Landscape Architecture, 71% of all commercial maintenance crews are now using organics to feed and monitor landscapes.
Chemicals are an unworkable option for both the environment and for the people who use them.
